We’re all aware of the importance of making a good first impression. But it’s just as important to support the first impression with substance. Attracting a new customer often begins with a good first impression whether it’s a face-to-face meeting, a presentation, an advertisement, or someone who discovers you on the web. Gaining their initial attention is the easy part even though that can be difficult. Holding their attention is the real challenge. Two things can happen following a first impression. The person either experiences joy or disappointment.
A website has become one of the most common forms of making a first impression. Unfortunately, most websites fail to hold the attention of a prospect after they see the homepage — even if it’s the most amazing design you’ve ever seen. Why? Because the site lacks substance, relevant content, or what we call a good story. Yes, pretty pictures can catch your eye but in today’s digital world if you can’t support that first impression with immediate value you’ve lost a customer. Your website needs to be more than just a pretty face.
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ~ Jawaharlal Nehru
